WHAT IS A CENSUS TAKER? Open the door to a census taker and open doors for your community.
2010 CENSUS INFORMATION
Message from President Obama You will receive your 2010 Census form this month. Please encourage your friends, family members, coworkers and others in our community to participate in the census. All census forms will be delivered or mailed to households in March 2010. Every household in the United States should complete its census form and mail it back upon receipt.
By completing and returning your census form, you are performing an important civic duty while helping to paint a new portrait of America and better define the future – for you, your community and our country. Census participation is vital to our community and provides many important functions, such as: - Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to tribal, state, and local governments based on census data.
- Census data guide local planning decisions, including where to provide additional social services, establish child-care and senior centers, and build new roads, hospitals, schools and job training, and community centers.
- Census data are used to reapportion congressional seats to states and assure proper district representation.
- Many businesses, social service and non-profit organizations, and others utilize census data to make critical decisions that affect communities everywhere.
Census participation is easy, important and safe. One of the shortest census forms in history, the 2010 Census form takes about 10 minutes to complete. By law, the U.S. Census Bureau cannot share respondents’ answers with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities. All Census Bureau employees take an oath of nondisclosure and are sworn for life to protect the confidentiality of the data. The penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
The City of Deltona is proud to be a partner of the Census Bureau and to support the 2010 Census. If you have any questions or need further information, please visit 2010census.gov. We ask for your support in this important initiative. Please, make a difference in your community by participating in the census.
