Benefits of Full Time Employment
We have a comprehensive benefit package for all full-time regular employees. You will find that our benefits are quite competitive and some even out of the ordinary! Our benefits include but are not limited to the following:
Pre-Tax Premium Cafeteria Plan – Allows medical and dental insurance premiums to be deducted from your paycheck before taxes are calculated; this results in less taxes taken from your paycheck and more take home pay. Medical Insurance – Coverage for the employee is paid 100% by the City, based on the HMO Plan. We offer two choices.
A point-of-service (POS) plan that combines some of the features of health maintenance organizations and some of the features of traditional health plans. Of course, with this plan you have the option of going out of network. Out of network benefits will subject you to higher deductibles and payment of a higher percentage of the costs.
The second option offered is an HMO plan. The features of this plan are similar to the point-of-service plan except that the plan is limited to in-network benefits only. However, this option offers dependent coverage at lower premiums than the POS plan.
- Dental Insurance – Coverage for the employee is paid 100% by the City. Coverage includes payment of reasonable and customary charges. Employees have the option of staying within the network, or going out of network.
- Vision Insurance - Coverage for the Employee is paid 100% by the City.
- Life Insurance – Paid 100% by the City. A full-time employee is covered by an amount equal to 1½ times the basic annual salary, to a maximum of $150,000. There are also Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefits and a “seat belt rider” that doubles the benefit under certain circumstances.
Retirement Plan – The City of Deltona participates in The Florida Retirement System pension plan. Deferred Compensation – Two 457k plans are available through ICMA and Nationwide Retirement Systems. Deferred compensation allows you to save money on a pre-tax basis for your retirement and lowers your tax liability. Deferrals are subject to the limits set by the IRS. Vacation – Full-time staff earn from 40 to 200 hours of vacation each year based on years of continuous service. Maximum accrual is 400 hours. Sick Leave Accruals – Full-time staff earn eight hours of sick leave a month. Sick leave may be used for medical appointments and family related care. Paid Holidays – Eleven holidays are observed each year: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving & Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tuition Assistance – We encourage continuing education for our employees and provide up to $2,500 per year to help defer the cost of tuition and books. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – While being totally confidential, the EAP program provides assistance to employees in resolving problems that may be affecting job performance or creating stress in their lives. Payroll Deductions – Employees may authorize payroll deductions for United Way or AFLAC policies. Bereavement Leave Worker’s Compensation Insurance Family Medical Leave (FMLA) Job Related Training/Seminars Credit Union Membership
