Adopt-A-Street ProgramThe ADOPT-A-STREET Program is a volunteer litter control program sponsored by the City of Deltona. Participants agree to pick up trash and litter in the right-of-way or median along streets they adopt, as often as necessary to keep the area clean. Most streets require litter pickup at least once every two weeks. Adopters may select any un-adopted street in Deltona. You select an area you can handle within your health and time constraints, but you will be expected to do the job. The agreement is open-ended - you may withdraw from the program by giving proper notice. ADOPT-A-STREET is built on the concept that volunteers at the local level, helping to keep their streets cleaner, will help build more community pride. This in turn will contribute to a safer city and retention of property values. It concentrates on individuals, small organizations, and local businesses taking responsibility for shorter distances in both residential and commercial areas, rather than longer stretches of state or county roads. ADOPT-A-STREET does not attempt to set standards for the community cleanliness. It does, however, aim to promote neighborhood cohesiveness and to project an attractive city with a comfortable quality of life. Joining the ADOPT-A-STREET Program is a nice way to get acquainted with your neighbors. There are no costs involved in joining ADOPT-A-STREET – only a little of your time. Participants are organizations, businesses and individuals. There have been over 275 adoptions since the program started in 1990, and about 35 percent of Deltona streets are presently adopted.
