Requirements of Pet Ownership

Spay & Neuter

In 2020, the City of Deltona adopted a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance (Sec. 14-238), which requires all dogs and cats, four months and older to be spayed or neutered. The purpose of this ordinance is to control the overpopulation of animals.

Top Reasons for Spaying & Neutering:

  • It reduces pet overpopulation.
  • Sterilized cats and dogs have a chance for a longer and healthier life.
  • Sterilizing your cat/dog makes him/her a better pet, reducing his/her urge to roam and decreasing the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam.

Rabies Vaccine

All domestic animals, dogs, and cats living in Deltona must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian and have a current City of Deltona license tag. The tag proves the animal has its current vaccinations and enables Animal Control to return the animal to its rightful owner. Please have your dogs wear their collars and tags, it will assist us in returning your dogs to you.

Leash Law

Deltona has a leash law in place, meaning the animal must be on a leash or humanely secured when outside. If you need additional information, please call Animal Control at (386) 878-8701.
