How you can help

To achieve these goals, we need you and your neighbors to get involved in reducing crime.  Here are a few simple suggestions and tips about how you can help the Sheriff's Office and your community:

  • Immediately report suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office by calling (386) 943-8276.
  • If the activity you're observing is an emergency or in-progress, call 9-1-1
  • To reduce home burglaries:
    • Consider investing in a home alarm system.
    • Get a quality deadbolt for all exterior doors.
    • Equip sliding doors with secondary locks.
    • Use exterior lights.
    • Trim the landscaping on your property to eliminate hiding places.
    • Make sure your garage door closes securely when you leave your home.
  • To reduce vehicle burglaries:
    • Consider investing in an anti-theft device, such as a steering wheel lock or motion-detecting alarm system.
    • No matter how quick the errand, never leave your car running unattended.
    • Keep valuables out of sight.  Leave them at home or secure them in your trunk or glove compartment.
    • Always park in well-lit areas.
    • Don't leave spare keys in the car.
  • If you know of a person who is wanted and where they may be located, you can remain anonymous and call us at (888) 277-8477 or send a text message to "TIP231 plus the message" to CRIMES.
